The doctoral programme in Medical Sciences «Dr. scient. med.» promotes a systematic understanding of the methods and skills of independent scientific work within the framework of interdisciplinary scientific cooperation between clinical research and basic research. It teaches the methodological skills and knowledge required for scientific work in this field.
The programme prepares students for independent scientific work in a predominantly clinical, but also natural science and/or health science-oriented research field. Students are enabled to critically analyse, evaluate and synthesise new and complex ideas. They acquire the ability to conceptualise, design, implement and adapt a substantial research process with scientific integrity. They will also be able to communicate with their professional environment, the wider scientific community and society in general about their area of specialisation.
Students develop a dissertation as an independent scientific contribution to medical-scientific research. Through original research, they contribute to expanding the frontiers of knowledge by developing substantial research and contribute to advancing scientific and/or health science within academic and professional contexts.
