Integrity
Scientific research is based on trust, integrity and consistent adherence to ethical principles. At UFL, we know that values and ethics are the foundation for excellent research and innovation. All researchers are guided by the rules of good scientific practice to ensure this high standard. These define binding standards for responsible scientific work and serve to prevent misconduct. Cornerstones of this commitment include scientific honesty, reliability, transparency and respect.
These regulations not only serve to implement these principles and form the basis for equal treatment across faculties when dealing with offences. To guarantee the high standards, the regulations are regularly reviewed and adapted to current scientific and ethical requirements.
The continuous examination of these principles and the cross-faculty discourse strengthen the awareness of scientific integrity and anchor its importance in research and teaching at UFL in the long term. Compliance is ensured through institutional guidelines and structural anchoring in relevant documents. The principles of good academic work are not only an integral part of the courses, and there are targeted measures and contact persons in place to support them. The ombudsperson for academic integrity plays a central role.
Research integrity ombudsperson
The ombudsperson acts as an independent and neutral body, It creates an atmosphere of trust and resolves conflicts in the scientific environment. They methodically and impartially assess reported issues and, if necessary proactively pursue additional measures in collaboration with the Disciplinary Board. Their main objective is to maintain the integrity of research and ensure that ethical standards are upheld. All UFL members across all faculties can contact the ombudsperson to clarify concerns, ambiguities or possible violations of scientific standards.
Personal counselling for all members of the university
All members of the University have the right to seek personal advice from the Ombudsperson. The ombudsperson offers confidential and impartial advice, whether the matter concerns academic standards or specific allegations. The ombudsperson’s role is to provide support in a safe environment and to identify possible solutions.
Receiving and investigating information
The ombudsperson is particularly available to people who wish to report suspected scientific misconduct. They actively report and investigate information that comes to their attention. Each report is analysed according to clear criteria - including the specificity and significance of the allegations, possible backgrounds or motives, and possible approaches to clarify the situation.
If you have any further questions or concerns, please contact the ombudsperson.
