Since over a decade our institute has a fruitful and intensive collaboration with Laborzentrum Dr. Risch. The collaboration focusses on the area of research and teaching. This includes joint and co-mentoring of MD and PhD students and this collaboration brought me in contact with UFL.

Prof. Harald Renz is Director and Professor of the Institute of Laboratory Medicine at Philipps University Marburg, Germany. He has held this position since 1999. From 2015 to 2021 he was Medical Director and CMO of Universitätsklinikum Gießen und Marburg GmbH, Marburg Campus. Since 2022 he is the President of the German Society for Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine e.V. (DGKL). Since 2010 he serves as deputy spokesperson of the Universities of Giessen and Marburg Lung Center (UGMLC), which is one of five sites of the German Lung Center (DZL). His research is devoted to the pathogenesis of allergies and asthma, with focus on gene-environment interactions, the role of the microbiome and epigenetic regulation. In 2012/13, he was Visiting Professor and Fulbright Scholar at Harvard Medical School in Boston. In 2018 he was Visiting Professor at the Hadassah Medical School Jerusalem, Israel. From 2010 to 2016 he was President of the German Society of Allergology and Clinical Immunology (DGAKI). He currently holds a visiting professorship at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical College in Moshi, Tanzania.
