Faculty of Law

At the heart of our teaching is the doctoral programme, which offers practising lawyers in particular the opportunity to work intensively on a legal topic as part of their doctoral studies. Our faculty brings together lecturers and students from all German-speaking countries and promotes interdisciplinary exchange.

Our academic profile is complemented by the Institute for Liechtenstein Law and Legal Theory, which deals with fundamental legal issues and conducts innovative research.

Our Goals

Study programme
The Faculty of Law at the UFL offers a structured doctoral programme in law (Dr. iur.), unique in the German-speaking region, specifically designed to accommodate the needs of working students, though it is also open to full-time students. Under the guidance of experienced supervisors and with the support of relevant courses, doctoral candidates( PhD students) carry out independent research projects and present their findings in the form of a dissertation.

Research
Since the research activities of doctoral candidates, since the founding of the Institute for Liechtenstein Law and Legal Theory (2021) and the appointment of Prof. Dr. Claudia Seitz (2023), the faculty has increasingly worked on its own research projects. In addition, the faculty regularly organises specialist conferences, namely the "KOLLOQUIA Triesen" (since 2022) and the "Comparative Law Symposium" (also since 2022).

Continuing education
In addition to the doctoral programme, the Faculty of Law offers a wide range of postgraduate education programmes, which give working lawyers in German-speaking countries in particular the opportunity to deepen their legal knowledge and prepare themselves for new challenges in practice. Our courses and certificate programmes cover current topics from various areas of law and offer practice-oriented learning at the highest level.

Institutes and Centres

The faculty aims to contribute to the further development of law both in Liechtenstein and in the German-speaking countries as a whole by supporting students in our doctoral programme, but also through our diverse research activities and continuing education programmes.

The Institute for European and International Law (IEIL) is in establishment.
