Dr. sc. nat. Ornella Weideli

Ornella Weideli hat sich durch ihre langjährige Forschungsarbeit im Indo-Pazifik, insbesondere in den Küstengebieten der Seychellen und Französisch-Polynesiens, auf Junghaie spezialisiert. Diese Gebiete spielen eine entscheidende Rolle als Schutz- und Nahrungsgebiete für die ersten Lebensjahre der Riffhaie, stehen jedoch zunehmend unter dem Druck menschlicher Einflüsse wie Küstenentwicklung, Klimawandel und Überfischung. Ornella hat ihre Forschungsergebnisse in verschiedenen wissenschaftlichen Fachzeitschriften veröffentlicht und konnte sie auch auf internationalen Kongressen präsentieren.
Um ein besseres Verständnis für diese gefährdeten Tiere in der Öffentlichkeit zu fördern, hat sich Ornella früh in ihrer wissenschaftlichen Karriere auch der Wissenschaftskommunikation gewidmet. Neben regelmässigen Vorträgen im In- und Ausland konnte Ornella Erfahrungen im Radio und TV machen und hat eine Vielzahl von Artikeln in unterschiedlichen Magazinen geschrieben.
Seit dem Ausbruch der COVID-19-Pandemie ist Ornella auch in der medizinischen Forschung aktiv. Nach vier Jahren als wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin und Studienkoordinatorin bei Dr. Risch in der Erforschung kardiovaskulärer Risikofaktoren in einer liechtensteinischen Studienpopulation (GAPP Studie), ist Ornella nun als Postdoktorandin am Institut für Labormedizin (ILM) tätig.
